A Holistic and Integrative Approach to Senior Living

AgeSong at Lake Merritt integrates our inner community with our outer surroundings and supports lifelong learning and development of the mind, body, and spirit. Through this integration, and by offering residents encouragement, support, and opportunities for growth, AgeSong at Lake Merritt’s community programs counter the loneliness and isolation that seniors may experience, and encourage learning and community involvement.

Four elements define our approach to creating caring elder communities:

Learning Campus. Regardless of age, we all have the capacity to learn and benefit from new experiences. AgeSong at Lake Merritt offers a variety of educational, cultural, and social programs, in addition to a fitness room, library, computer stations, conference room, and generous community spaces. We provide additional programs through our AgeSong Academy, including workshops and guest lecturers, scholars, and community members interested in sharing social, political, and historical views and perspectives. We encourage residents, their families, staff, and members of the community to participate.

Vibrant and Healing Environments. AgeSong at Lake Merritt is a beautiful Mediterranean Art Deco residential community located right on Lake Merritt, the crown jewel of downtown Oakland. Here, you’re at the heart of the city — close to all of the activities the lake has to offer, including walking and bike paths, public gardens, the nation’s first bird sanctuary, numerous events, sailing — even gondola rides. AgeSong at Lake Merritt's location in Oakland’s “Gold Coast” district places you at the center of city life, including museums, shopping, dining, bookstores, art galleries, and the library — with convenient access to the entire Bay Area via BART, buses, and freeways.

Integrative Care and Services. Here at AgeSong at Lake Merritt, we are continually adapting to residents' newfound needs. Our comprehensive care coordination supports even the most challenging activities of daily living, allowing residents to feel secure and at home.

Challenging Current Attitudes. Our own attitudes about aging affect how we see our elders and ourselves. AgeSong at Lake Merritt promotes the idea and practice of embracing aging. Given there is a strong societal belief that aging equals decline, we are committed to shift this attitude towards one that celebrates aging as maturing. AgeSong at Lake Merritt encourages people to be who they are, at any age.
